Dr. Ryan Zumwalt PT, DPT (owner)
Dr. Zumwalt is the Owner and Operator of Lighthouse Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine. Dr. Zumwalt graduated summa cum laude with his pre-medical degree in Biomedical Science from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota. Following his undergraduate degree, he earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Midwestern University, where he graduated at the top of his class. Since graduating, he has undergone extensive training in TMJ rehab, sports related concussions, and sports related orthopedic injuries. Prior to Lighthouse, Dr. Zumwalt worked as a member of the medical team for the Seattle Mariners. In addition, he has also served as an Associate Professor of Musculoskeletal Pathology at Midwestern University. Dr. Zumwalt was also a Division 1 Wrestler for California State Fullerton and a multiple time All American in his respective sport. When not treating patients or running Lighthouse, you can find Dr. Zumwalt lifting weights, hiking and enjoying time with his family
Dr. Cale Nichols PT, DPT, COMT, OCS
Dr. Nichols graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2013 with honors and a Bachelors in Exercise Science. He then pursued physical therapy at Northern Arizona and graduated with his doctorate in 2017, graduating at the top of his class with distinction. Since receiving his doctorate, Dr. Nichols has treated all musculoskeletal conditions and orthopedics, ranging from post-operative recovery, joint replacements, spine dysfunction, TMJ, vestibular training, and everything in between. He has taken extensive post-doctoral education, obtaining is COMT (Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist) in 2018, and sitting for the Orthopedic Clinical Specialist Exam (OCS) in 2021. While treating all conditions, Dr. Nichols has a particular enjoyment and specializes in treating ACL reconstructions, long distance runners, and soccer players. He has also been a clinical instructor for doctoral students for several years and has been adjunct faculty at Northern Arizona University’s physical therapy program. When not in the clinic you can find Dr. Nichols traveling, running, and backpacking with his dog Boomer
Dr. Sierra Schimmels PT, DPT
Dr. Schimmels grew up in Durango, CO and Wilmette, IL. She attended Santa Clara University for undergraduate and received a BS in Biology with an emphasis in Biomedical Sciences and a minor in Public Health Science in 2018. She then studied at Regis University in Denver, CO where she earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2021. She has been in Spokane since Fall of 2020 and has loved treating different populations in both inpatient rehab and orthopedic settings. When not in clinic she enjoys spending time with family, traveling, trying new foods, and exploring the outdoors in all seasons.
Steven Cordovana, DPT
Dr. Cordovana grew up in sunny Phoenix, Arizona and attended undergraduate school in Flagstaff, Arizona at Northern Arizona University, graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Biology with minors in Chemistry, Psychology, and Italian. He returned to Northern Arizona University for his Doctor of Physical Therapy education, graduating in 2021. Since starting practice, Dr. Cordovana has had the opportunity to treat a variety of conditions including musculoskeletal and orthopedic injuries, surgical repairs and joint replacements, Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions, vestibular dysfunction, and concussions. His personal philosophy is that everyone is an athlete in their own way, whether that is playing with the grandchildren, participating in competitive sports, or anything in between. In his free time, Dr. Cordovana enjoys weight lifting and most outdoor activities, especially hiking, backpacking, and snowboarding. When he is not outdoors or in the clinic, he enjoys attending Spokane Indians games with his long time girlfriend Autumn or wrestling with his German Shepherd Lucy.
Dakota Roach PTA
Dakotah is a Physical Therapist Assistant who is born and raised in Spokane Wa. He studied at Spokane Falls Community College and ultimately graduated in 2022 with his Physical Therapist Assistant associates degree. He enjoys orthopedics and helping people achieve their goals. When not in clinic, he enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, auto detailing, and riding dirt bikes!
Peter Hampshire, LMT
Peter is a massage therapist with a focus in body mechanics and mobility. An Oregon native Peter has been a certified personal trainer for 10+ years and graduated at the top of his class from Therapeutic Connections School of Massage. He has an emphasis on addressing neck and lower back pain and specializes in helping patients work their way out of knee pain by locating tension and muscular imbalances and incorporating corrective exercises. When he’s not improving people’s lives at Lighthouse Physical Therapy, Peter is an avid snowboarder and rugby player and an amateur model and actor.
Benjamin Porter, DPT
