Head Injury

At some point in life, everyone will have some form of pain in their head or face. Head injuries most commonly come from motor vehicle accidents or sporting activities. Our Physical Therapists are trained to tease out the underlying cause and treat it effectively or, if needed, refer you to the medical professional who can.

If you suffered a head injury from a traumatic event and the head pain continues to worsen over the next 24-48 hours, it is very important to undergo a medical evaluation! Concussions can be nearly asymptomatic following injury and you do not need to lose consciousness to get a concussion. Come and get screened as fast as possible! While treatment for concussions was not performed in the past, recent research shows its necessity.

Our Physical Therapists form specific treatments for the following conditions:

  • TMD
  • Concussion
  • Headache (migrane, tension, stress or cervicogenic)
  • TBI
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)
  • Muscular dystrophy
  • Peripheral neuropathy
  • Post-Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA)
  • Post-Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA)
  • Bell’s Palsy

Treatments for Head injuries:

Individualized treatment plans will be generated upon an evaluation from one of our experienced clinicians. The evaluation will take into account your symptoms, X-Ray/MRI results, special tests, and your personal goals. Every patient will have a treatment plan individually designed for them and their needs. If you do not have a prescription from your physician for physical therapy, you may still be able to be treated at Lighthouse. Please visit the “Direct Access” tab in the dropdown from “Patient Information.”
